CHANDIGARH: Any hope of an imminent probe against tainted IPS officer, Saji Mohan, in a corruption case came crashing with UT police failing to get him in the city on production warrants, yet again.
Sources said though a UT police messenger was sent to Mumbai court along Mohans with production warrants on Thursday, his request was turned down as he reportedly wasnt carrying a state government undertaking to return the officer back.
According to information, UT police might have to take another date to serve production warrants.
Earlier, Chandigarh cops obtained the production warrants against former NCB zonal director from district courts for February 24. However, a technical glitch - legal protocol under Section 267 CrPC was not followed - led to refusal by Mumbai court.
Apparently, summons were served directly to jail superintendent despite the rulebook stating production warrants had to be endorsed by the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) and sent to the CJM concerned for forwarding it to jail staff. An important annexure also includes the states undertaking to produce him back on the next date of trail.
Mohan is wanted by UT police for his alleged involvement in embezzlement of Rs 13.50 lakh and also a corruption case filed by NCB. The former zonal director is lodged in Mumbai jail for his alleged role in drug trafficking.
